I am aware that an organic substance consists of organic things (comes from a living organism). So I’m guessing the inorganic substances is the decay

“organic” requires a carbon atom or molecule
Organic compunds contain carbon. It used to be thought that organic substances had to be made by living organisma. Today many can be made in the lab, but thy all contain carbon.
H2S can be formed organically (by an organism) or chmically in the lab, but it is not organic because it does not contain carbon.
Decay is a process of breaking down materials wether they are organic or inorganc.
Remember that all organic substances have carbon in them, If no carbon then it’s not organic
