How to write formulas for compounds?

Write the formulas for the compounds formed by the following combination of elements and name each of the compounds formed.

a. lithium and fluorine
b. calcium and bromine
c. sodium and nitrogen
d. aluminum and nitrogen

I also have to write the formulas for the following compounds:

a. sodium iodide
b. beryllium fluoride
c. magnesium oxide
d. aluminum sulfide

    always put the cation first. The anion ending gets changed to “ide”, if it is a binary compound. All of oyurs are binary.

    You need to know the valence charges and cross multiply.

    your first question (a) becomes LiF = Lithium Fluoride

    your second question (a) becomes NaI

    Now try the rest

    b) CaBr2- calcium bromide
    c) Na3N- sodium nitride
    d) AlN- aluminum nitride
    Always check ur periodic table for “elements charges”. .

    C)MgO
    D) Al2S3
