    Click OK. You should consider the charges that the ions are different. Therefore, magnesium oxide, if you look at the periodic table, magnesium is in the second column. This means that forms an ion with a charge of +2. The oxygen is in the second column to the left of the Nobel gas, thus forming an ion -2. Thus, magnesium oxide MgO would form. (You only need one of each ion to balance the charges + and -) 2. Nickel and form a chloride ion is -1, so you need two nickel chloride ions to balance the two, he NiCl2. You should be able to get the rest. When you get to things like iron, copper and lead, these compounds can form ions with different charges. The numbers in the name indicates the ionic charge. Thus, iron oxide, iron (II) has a charge +2. In the lead (IV) fluoride, lead ion is +4. You should be able to do all these now. . .
