Hydrogen Sulfide    Sodium Sulfide   Sulfuric Acid

What is the formula equation for sodium sulfide and also mercury (II) nitrate and what are the products?

Also, what is it balanced, what are the states of matter and which product is a precipitate and finally what is the net ionic equation?

  1. kumorifox says

    Na2S(aq) + Hg(NO3)2(aq) → 2NaNO3(aq) + HgS(s)

    Hg^2+(aq) + S^2-(aq) → HgS(s)

    Mercury(II) sulfide is precipitated.

  2. kodie says

    sodium sulfide = Na2S

    mercury (II) nitrate = Hg(NO3)2

    Na2S(aq) + Hg(NO3)2(aq) –> HgS(s) + 2NaNO3(aq)

To find the precipitates, look at the solubility rules (link below)

precipitate = HgS (coz all nitrates are soluble)

    hope this helps;-D
